Shilp Samagam Event: Crafting Inclusion & Artistry

At the start of 2024, Shilp Samagam returned as a vibrant celebration of India’s traditional crafts and artisans—holding court from 12 to 21 January in Amritsar, organized under the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment .

What Is the Shilp Samagam Event?

A flagship initiative of the central government, Shilp Samagam is an exhibition-a‑event that brings together rural and marginalized artisans from across India—including Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, sanitation workers, and persons with disabilities—to showcase their traditional handicrafts and regional heritage products at a public marketplace .

The 2024 edition in Amritsar featured more than 200 artisans from 17 states, displaying textiles, pottery, metalwork, cane & bamboo crafts, handloom goods, leather products, and more—all united by cultural narrative and economic inclusion goals .

🎨 Graphisads – Bringing the Experience to Life

Behind Shilp Samagam’s seamless execution and visual branding was Graphisads Limited, the New Delhi–based creative and event management specialist empanelled with government bodies (boroktimes.com).

Graphisads’ role included:

  • Designing event branding, stall aesthetics, signage, and themed installations.
  • Coordinating visitor flow, stall layouts, registrations, and overall logistics.
  • Serving as strategic media partner—providing visual storytelling, press liaison, and promotion.
  • Highlighting the stories of artisans, ensuring dignity and visibility through curated displays and capacity-building support.

Their efforts turned the exhibition into an immersive cultural journey, not just a marketplace.

🛍️ Highlights from the Amritsar Edition

  • Featured 200+ artisans across 17 states, showcasing a wide variety of traditional craftsmanship—bringing together regional cultural identities in one space .
  • Served as a marketplace for artisans from Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, under government upliftment programs managed by NSFDC, NBCDFC, and NSKFDC.
  • Complemented by digital initiatives: the TULIP (Traditional Artisans’ Upliftment Livelihood Programme) platform was introduced to digitize artisan markets and enable e-commerce access .

Why the Event Matters

  • It amplifies cultural heritage and traditional regional crafts while bridging the urban-rural divide.
  • It empowers marginalized artisans economically, offering direct exposure to buyers and institutional support.
  • It supports digital inclusion via TULIP, enabling artisans to sell their wares through platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, ONDC, and others
  • It fosters social equity by giving space, recognition, and dignity to craftspeople from overlooked communities.
